Cataloging
Joe's Work
Cataloging
Whalen's work is a monumental task. We have a database
which contains images of his work. To make it more searchable
we enter keywords with each image. We add titles, size,
media and owner (if the owner chooses). If we happen to
have a sketch which contributed to the creation of the
work that is also associated with the image and is included
for viewing. In addition, we are adding video and/or audio
clips if we happen to have one available related to the
work.
As
important as the image we also try to collect stories
of the work. How it was obtained, what it means to the
owner, etc.
In
the near future we will be allowing individuals to come
in and view the works in the database.
If
you wish to volunteer to enter information into the database,
scan/edit images or anything else we always appreciate
the help.
Loan
us your Whalens
Over
a period of seventy-five years Joe produced thousands
of works both formally & informally. In addition to
the paintings we know there are sketches (sometimes done
quickly on a napkin or scrap of paper), birthday cards,
humorous cartoons, posters, etc, etc, etc. There are menus,
programs from plays, reunions and the like, logos, etc,
etc, etc. All of these things are important for the catalogue.
Joe
always said (quoting his mother Helen), "Art is nothing
if it is not shared". If you have any Whalens, even
something as simple as a small sketch, please contact
us and share it with others. We love to collect the stories
which go with any of Joe's artwrok.
If
we use your painting for the annual calendar you recieve
one at no charge.
We
also will be feature loaned works for the annual Whalen:
Legacy On Loan shows if you are willing to loan them out
to us.
Sponsor an Easel
For
the Whalen: Legacy on Loan 2017 show we were not allowed
to put nails in the wall and there was no hanging system.
Instead we built 50 easels and an assortment of pedestals.
We are now offering sponsorships for those easels. For
$30 we will put a name plate with the sponsors name. In
Memoriams are welcome and encouraged. The funds raised
will help us continue the work of the Niagara Art Trail
and cataloging of Joe's work.
Champion
Another Artist
We
have our hands full with Whalen's work, but we encourage
others to take up the torch for other artists. Whether
it's your own work, the work of a relative, or just a
local artist whom you enjoy. We open our resource center
up to those wishing to take on the task.
More
ways to be involved will be coming soon...
